Seedlings

'RECURSIVE LANGUAGE' W DOT GALLERY / CHICAGO IL 2023

Seedlings represent the first signs of life; growth breaking through its container.

Coil-built forms, often minimal and subdued, become silhouettes from which forms are cut, displaced, and reintegrated unto themselves. These works present the idea of adaptation through building anew through what is already there. As an artist, I believe I have a responsibility to question possibility through the innate and mundane. This curiosity within the series is presented as a relationship with play, experimentation, and embrace of uncertainty. Moments are distorted in order to find clarity and spaces are created to provide visual opportunities. Windows are cut to engage our perception with the inside; light becomes subject matter; negative spaces turn positive. These works are about possibility and potential. They are about us. How we all have the capacity to look inward and discover ourselves in ways we could otherwise never predict.
